Libya, at the time, was the most friendly country. Being shown around Benghazi by a local after a chance meeting in the street was a remarkable experience. Going to his house for lunch as a complete stranger seems bizarre. Only being able to handout eclipse shades as a gift was quite shaming. The eclipse next day was observed from the location indicated on the map.

There is no way to describe the effect of a total solar eclipse
but the sound on this movie does a good job.
